The Palm Springs High School boys tennis team easily handled the Rancho Mirage Rattlers on Tuesday winning by a score of 15-3 under gusty wind conditions. Winners for the Indians were:
Michael Cabacungan: 6-0, 6-0, 6-0
Nico Calixto: 6-0, 6-1, 6-0
Tanner Moy/Marcello Calixto: 6-2, 6-0, 6-0
Wesley Horns/Reese Buchanan: 6-0, 6-2, 6-4
Cipe Rodriguez/Michael Donovan: 6-1, 6-4
Alijah Spande/Ryan Buchanan: 7-6 (7-4)
The doubles team of Alijah Spande and Ryan Buchanan were particularly noteworthy, coming in as substitutes in the last round and winning the only set they played in a tiebreaker against the number two RMHS doubles team. Tanner Moy, a transfer athlete for Palm Springs High School from Rancho Mirage, put the beat down on his former team winning all three of his doubles sets with his doubles partner Marcello Calixto.
The win puts the Indians 7-2 in the Desert Empire League and 8-3 overall, in solid command of second place in the league behind Palm Desert. They face the Shadow Hills Knights on Thursday 4/11 at Shadow Hills for their last match in the league before the League Individual tournament and the CIF playoffs. The match starts at 3:15 p.m.
